Teresa Parnell, Psy.D.

Dr-Teresa-Parnell-headshot-A-200x300-wpDr. Parnell is a licensed psychologist, certified mediator, certified addictions specialist in private practice in Maitland, Florida.  She received her B.A. in 1984 from Flagler College and her M.S. in Clinical Psychology in 1988 from the University of Central Florida. She received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1990 from the Florida Institute of Technology. She serves children, adolescents, and adults with specialization in child abuse, domestic violence, juvenile justice, divorce/custody, and Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome. Dr. Parnell performs psychological evaluations for the family, dependency, criminal, and civil courts. She previously practiced in a group practice for over seven years specializing in the same areas. While there, she was one of a team of psychologist consultants to the Orange/Seminole/Osceola County Multidisciplinary HRS/CPT Case Management Staffing.  Currently, she is the Consulting Psychologist to the Child Protection Team serving Seminole County.  In addition, Dr. Parnell is certified as an appellate, civil, county, dependency, and family law mediator.

Dr. Parnell is currently a board member for the Collaborative Family Law Group of Central Florida. Her professional memberships include the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. She is an associate member of the Florida Bar Association Family Law Section.  Along with a colleague, she developed an educational program titled, Divided Loyalties: Shared Parenting through Education, which is now approved in several counties for mandatory attendance by divorcing parents. She was a founding member of the Central Florida Task Force for Divorcing Families which for several years spearheaded numerous projects connected with the Orange County Family Court. Dr. Parnell has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University, the University of Central Florida and Rollins College, teaching courses in master’s degree programs. She was also an adjunct faculty member at Barry University School of Law co-teaching an advanced family law course.  Dr. Parnell has been involved in several applied research projects resulting in presentations at national and regional conferences as well as publications in professional journals. She is lead editor of a book from Sage Publications titled Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome: Misunderstood Child Abuse and has contributed chapters to other published books.
